What auto DM is — and what Instagram allows
An auto DM tool connects to your Instagram Professional account (Creator or Business) through Meta's official Instagram API and sends a message when a trigger happens: a keyword comment on a Reel or post, a reply to your story, a DM containing a keyword, a comment during a Live, or a tap on a "DM me" link.
Meta sets the limits, and every approved tool lives inside them:
- Only people who reached you first. A comment, a story reply or a DM opens the conversation. Following you does not, except in Meta's Follow to DM beta, which Meta switches on account by account.
- One private reply per comment. The DM to a commenter is a "private reply"; Meta allows one per comment, within 7 days of it. After the person answers, the normal 24-hour messaging window applies.
- Your password never leaves Instagram. You log in on Instagram's own screen. A tool that asks for your password, or promises to DM strangers, is not using the official API — and that is what gets accounts restricted.
