Best AI Chatbot for Instagram DMs in India (Hindi & Hinglish), 2026

What an Instagram DM chatbot has to handle for Indian buyers — Hinglish, Devanagari, half-sentences, voice notes, "COD hai kya?" — how to train one on your own price list, when it should hand over to you, and how ViralDM, ManyChat AI, Meta Business Agent and DMflo compare.

TL;DR

  • The test for India is the inbox, not the demo. Buyers type Hinglish, switch to Devanagari, send fragments and voice notes, and ask the same things all day: price, size, delivery, COD, returns.
  • A good DM chatbot answers from your documents in the follower's own language, says it will check instead of inventing a price, and steps aside when someone asks for a refund or gets upset.
  • ViralDM does that with the AI Brain, voice notes in Hindi, Hinglish and English, and automatic hand-over. AI replies start on Starter at ₹499 a month (3,000 a month; your first 30 days are free) and are unlimited on Growth at ₹1,499. The Free plan has no AI.
  • Disclosure: we make ViralDM. ManyChat, Meta and DMflo are described only from their own pages, read on 14 October 2026.

It is 3 AM and 47 new DMs are waiting. One says "bhai hoodie XL me hai?", one says "COD hai kya", one is a nine-second voice note, and one is a single word: "price". A person would answer all four in a minute, in the same Hinglish. Many chatbots answer the first in textbook English, reply "Sorry, I didn't understand that" to the second, and skip the voice note. That gap, more than the AI model underneath, decides whether an Instagram DM bot sells in India.

What an Instagram DM chatbot must handle in India

A LinkedIn post by Indigen Services in May 2026 described the pattern from a D2C brand's Diwali rush: English replies to customers writing in Hinglish, a bot that breaks on "kab milega bhai" and says it does not understand, and customers who give up on the channel. Their fix is the one this guide recommends: understand Hindi and Hinglish from the start, and hand the chat to a person as soon as the tone turns negative. On Instagram the same inbox looks like this:

  • Hinglish in Roman script — "price kitna hai", "size chart bhejo". A formal English answer to a Hinglish question reads like a call centre.
  • Mixed script. One message in Devanagari, the next in Roman letters, sometimes both in one line.
  • Broken messages. "hi", then "price", then "black wala" arrive separately. The bot has to read them together, with the conversation so far.
  • Voice notes. Many buyers would rather speak than type. A bot that cannot hear them ignores a paying customer.
  • The same five questions. Price, size and stock, delivery time, COD, returns. One wrong number here costs you money.
  • Screenshots. Your Reel with "ye wala?" underneath is a product question, not small talk.

Two rules come from Meta, not any tool: a business can only message people who wrote first — a DM, a comment or a story reply — and automated replies go out inside Meta's 24-hour messaging window.

ViralDM's DM assistant reads the recent conversation before it answers, matches the follower's language and keeps replies to one or two short sentences. Voice notes in Hindi, Hinglish and English are transcribed and answered like typed DMs, and a photo can be matched to your product (both Starter and up). Replies cover nine Indian languages — Hindi, Hinglish, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil and Telugu — plus English, detected from the message itself. How to train an AI chatbot on your business (5 steps)

The ViralDM icon with a green pill reading AI Brain ready, answers from your documents
Illustration · sample data — once your price list, FAQ and policies are in the AI Brain, every AI reply is written from them.

A chatbot is only as good as what it knows. In ViralDM that is the AI Brain: for each message, the matching passages from your documents are handed to the AI, so the reply carries your price and policy, not a guess.

  1. Write down what buyers ask. Prices with sizes and colours, delivery times and charges, the COD limit, returns and exchanges, payment methods, working hours — each answered the way you would type it.
  2. Add it to the AI Brain. Paste the text, add a public web page such as your FAQ or shipping policy, or upload a PDF or text file of up to 8 MB. Up to 50 documents; refresh a web page when it changes.
  3. Test it the way buyers type. In Ask the brain, type "XL hai kya?" or "COD milega?" to see exactly what a follower would get, with the passages it matched. If nothing matches, it says so — a gap to fill in your documents.
  4. Add intents for anything that needs an action. An intent is a label, example phrases in any language, and an action: send a reply, run an automation, hand off to you (the bot pauses for that person) or tag the subscriber. Your keyword automations still run first; intents catch what they miss.
  5. Switch it on, or start from a template. Turn on AI replies for your DMs, or activate a ready-made agent — e-commerce support, course selling, salon booking, real estate, coaching, restaurant booking or influencer brand deals — with a persona, FAQs, a calm answer to "too expensive" and hand-off rules, all editable. See ready-made AI agents for Indian businesses.

The AI Brain and AI replies come with Starter (₹499 a month, 3,000 AI replies) and are unlimited on Growth (₹1,499); every new account gets Starter free for 30 days, with no card. If Starter's AI replies run out, your written reply still goes — nothing stops. On Growth, the AI Brain is also one of ViralDM's MCP tools, so "add my shipping page to the AI Brain and ask it whether COD is available" works as one sentence in Claude or ChatGPT.

Example replies in Hinglish, Hindi and English

What good looks like for a small clothing store whose AI Brain holds a price list and a delivery-and-returns policy. These are illustrations written from sample data, not real chats.

  • Follower: "bhai hoodie XL me hai? price kitna"
Reply: "Haan XL available hai 🙂 Oversized hoodie ₹1,299 — black, grey aur olive mein. Kaunsa colour chahiye?"
  • Follower: "COD hai kya"
Reply: "Haan, COD hai ₹2,000 tak ke orders pe. Prepaid order pe shipping free hai 🙂"
  • Follower: "pune mein kab tak milega"
Reply: "Pune mein dispatch ke baad 3–5 din lagte hain. Aaj order karoge toh kal dispatch ho jayega."
  • Follower: "क्या साइज़ बदल सकते हैं?"
    Reply: "हाँ, डिलीवरी के 7 दिन के अंदर साइज़ बदल सकते हैं। बस अपना ऑर्डर नंबर भेज दीजिए।"
  • Follower: "Do you ship to Dubai?"
Reply: "Right now we ship only within India. Want me to message you when international shipping opens?"
  • Follower: 🎤 a voice note — "bhaiya black wali hoodie ka size chart bhej do"
Reply: "XL ka chest 46 inch aur length 28 inch hai 🙂 Aapki height kitni hai? Main sahi size bata deta hoon."
  • Follower: "hi" · "price" · "black wala"
Reply: "Black oversized hoodie ₹1,299 ka hai 🙂 Size batao, main abhi stock check kar deta hoon."
  • Follower: "50 piece bulk mein chahiye, rate?"
Reply: "Bulk rate main team se confirm karke yahin batata hoon 🙂 Kaunse colours aur sizes chahiye?"
  • Follower: "mujhe call karo 98XXXXXXXX"
Reply: "Done 🙂 Hamari team aapko subah 9 se raat 9 baje ke beech call karegi."
  • Follower: "2 hafte ho gaye order nahi aaya, refund chahiye"
Reply: your hand-off message — by default "Let me connect you with our team — someone will personally reply here shortly. 🙏" — and the chat is yours.

The bulk rate is not in the price list, so the reply promises to check — ViralDM's assistant is told never to make up prices, claims or guarantees. With AI Calls on, "call me" books a real call: your AI phones the buyer in Hindi between 9 AM and 9 PM and leaves a transcript and summary in your dashboard (how AI Calls work).

How to stop your chatbot sounding like a bot

  • Keep it short. One or two sentences. A paragraph with a greeting and a sign-off is the clearest sign of a bot.
  • Mirror the language. Hinglish gets Hinglish, Hindi gets Hindi. Never answer "price kitna hai" with "Thank you for reaching out to us."
  • Answer first. "₹1,299, XL is in stock — which colour?" beats a menu of options.
  • Hold the link back. ViralDM's assistant shares your buy or booking link only once the person looks interested.
  • Give it your voice. A persona in your own words, plus an AI DM writer that drafts in your tone and a Humanizer that makes stiff templates sound typed (Starter and up). Every plan sends with human-like timing and a typing indicator.
  • Never guess a number. If it is not in your documents, the right reply is "let me check".

When the chatbot should hand over to you

  • Refunds and complaints. Refund, money back, "paisa wapas", complaint, scam, fraud, "dhoka", police or consumer court: the bot pauses for that person and you get an in-app notification and a browser push that opens that chat.
  • They ask for a human. "talk to a person", "manager", "kisi insaan se baat karni hai" — the same hand-over.
  • Your own triggers. Add hand-off words for your business, or an intent with the action Hand off to me.
  • Anger in public. Mood Shield, on every plan including Free, answers an angry comment calmly and hands the upset follower over to you gently.
  • Anything not in your documents. Bulk orders, custom work, a delivery gone wrong: the assistant says it will check, and you answer.

When you take over, the Inbox AI Copilot (Starter and up) summarises the chat and drafts a reply from your AI Brain in the follower's language. Use this reply only fills your reply box — it never sends — and any number not found in the chat or your documents is flagged first.

Competitor columns come from each company's own site, read 14 October 2026 (Meta's from its 3 June 2026 announcement). Where a page does not mention something, the table says so. Prices change — check on the day you buy.

ManyChat AI. The pricing page shows Manychat AI on Pro and above, while the AI product page still calls it a $29-a-month add-on to Pro, so confirm which applies to you. Its help centre says the AI is in beta, works on Instagram only, learns from linked pages (one at a time) and pasted text, and can misread the language of very short messages. The dollar bill grows with active contacts. More: ManyChat vs ViralDM for India.

Meta Business Agent. Meta announced on 3 June 2026 that it is expanding its Business Agent globally and to Instagram — local languages, your business information and catalog, a team member stepping in when you decide, free to start. Its pages do not say whether it is switched on for Instagram accounts in India today, or how it handles Hinglish and voice notes there. That is unclear, so check inside Meta's own business tools.

DMflo. An Indian tool billed in rupees that leads with Hinglish and has a free plan of 50 agent runs a month. Its site does not mention voice notes, answering from your own documents, or handing chats to a human.

ViralDM's trade-off: the Free plan has no AI. For more auto DM tools, see the 9 best Instagram auto DM tools in India.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best AI chatbot for Instagram DMs in India?

The one that answers in your buyers' language, from your own price list, and hands over when it should. For Hindi, Hinglish and voice notes answered from your documents, ViralDM. For global multi-channel funnels, ManyChat. For Meta's own AI, the Business Agent, once your account has it.

Is there a free AI chatbot for Instagram?

ViralDM's Free plan has no AI, but every new account gets Starter, with AI replies, free for 30 days without a card. DMflo's free plan includes 50 agent runs a month, Meta says its Business Agent is free to start, and ManyChat's free plan does not include Manychat AI.

Can an Instagram auto reply bot answer in Hindi or Hinglish?

Yes. A keyword auto-reply is a message you write once, so write it in Hindi or Hinglish. An AI chatbot goes further: ViralDM reads which language each message is in and answers in the same one. More: free auto DM for Instagram.

Can the chatbot understand voice notes?

On ViralDM, from Starter: voice notes in Hindi, Hinglish and English are transcribed and answered like typed messages. On Free, the follower is politely asked to type the question.

How do I train the chatbot on my products and prices?

Add your price list, FAQ and policies to the AI Brain as text, a web page or a PDF, then test them in Ask the brain with questions typed the way your buyers type.

What happens when the AI does not know the answer?

It should say it will check, not guess. Refunds, complaints and requests for a person go straight to you with a notification.

Will an AI chatbot get my Instagram account banned?

A chatbot on Meta's official API that only answers people who wrote first, inside Meta's messaging window, is the approved way to automate DMs. Avoid any tool that wants your Instagram password or promises to message strangers.

How much does an AI chatbot for Instagram cost in India?

ViralDM: ₹499 a month for 3,000 AI replies, or ₹1,499 for unlimited, in rupees. DMflo starts at ₹599 a month. ManyChat bills in US dollars, with Manychat AI shown from its $29-a-month Pro plan billed yearly. See ViralDM pricing.

Final thoughts

Every AI chatbot looks good in a demo. The real test is a late-night inbox full of "price?", "COD hai kya" and voice notes. Pick the one that answers in your buyers' language from your own documents, admits when it does not know, and hands you the chat when money or tempers are involved. To try ViralDM's, put your price list into the AI Brain, ask it the five questions your buyers ask most, and switch it on — the first 30 days are free.
