Overview
Model Context Protocol (MCP) is the open standard that lets an AI assistant call real tools. ViralDM shipped the first MCP server from an Indian Instagram-automation platform in May 2026: one URL — https://mcp.viraldm.app/mcp — and Claude Desktop, Claude Code, ChatGPT (developer mode), Cursor, Gemini CLI, Cline, Continue.dev or an n8n AI Agent node can create comment-to-DM automations, run drip sequences, send broadcasts to a segment, read how your automations performed, manage products and coupons, verify UPI payments and more (Instagram post scheduling is coming soon, once Meta approves publishing) — all through your own ViralDM account, with OAuth 2.0 + PKCE consent and per-agent audit logs. MCP works on every plan — read-only on Free, read and write from Starter and in the free first month; there is nothing extra to buy.

What your AI agent can actually do
Posting (coming soon for Instagram, once Meta approves publishing): schedule a post, reel, story or carousel with caption, hashtags and alt text, and pick the best posting time. Automation: create a comment-to-DM or keyword-DM rule, bind it to a post, run multi-step sequences, send a broadcast to a segment. Growth: see how your automations performed, run a profile audit, get a content calendar. Money: list orders, manage products and coupons, verify a UPI screenshot, see revenue attributed to each DM link. Safety: check any text against Meta's messaging rules before it goes out. Each of the 58 tools carries a description the agent reads, so a plain sentence is enough.
Set-up in under five minutes
Claude Desktop: add the ViralDM server to claude_desktop_config.json (the exact block is on the MCP page), restart, and approve ViralDM on the consent screen that opens. Claude Code: claude mcp add --transport http viraldm https://mcp.viraldm.app/mcp. Cursor: Settings → MCP → add server, transport HTTP, that URL. ChatGPT: Settings → Apps & Connectors → developer mode → add the URL. n8n: AI Agent node → Tools → MCP Client Tool → paste the URL and your ViralDM API key as Bearer token. Security and consent
The server speaks OAuth 2.0 with PKCE and dynamic client registration. Nothing runs until you sign in at viraldm.app and press Allow for that specific agent; scopes are per agent, every call is logged, and you can revoke an agent from Dashboard → API Keys. Personal API keys are available for scripts. Sends still go through the same Ban-Safe Shield limits as the dashboard, so an agent cannot blast your followers faster than Meta tolerates.
Why this is different from an Instagram MCP you install yourself
Open-source Instagram MCP servers on GitHub wrap the private mobile API with your username and password — the fastest way to get an account restricted. ViralDM's server sits on the official Instagram Graph API with the app permissions Meta reviewed, adds the automation layer (keywords, sequences, segments, humaniser, working hours) and the India layer (Hindi/Hinglish, UPI, WhatsApp handoff), and needs no server of your own.

What is the ViralDM Instagram MCP server?
A hosted Model Context Protocol endpoint (https://mcp.viraldm.app/mcp) that exposes 58 ViralDM tools to any MCP-compatible AI agent — Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Gemini CLI, n8n and others. The agent reads the tool descriptions and calls them on your behalf after you approve it with OAuth.
Is it really India's first?
ViralDM launched its MCP server in May 2026. We searched the category before saying this and could not find another India-built Instagram automation platform offering one, and it was the first India-native Instagram automation proposed as an n8n community node. Does it cost extra?
No. MCP works on every plan: on Free your agent can read your account, from Starter (₹499 a month) it can also create and change things, and the free first month includes it. Calling the API directly with a key starts on Growth (₹1,499). Use OAuth from your agent, or a personal API key from Dashboard → API Keys.
Can ChatGPT use it?
Yes. In ChatGPT, open Settings → Apps & Connectors → enable developer mode → add a custom connector with the ViralDM MCP URL. Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, Gemini CLI, Cline, Continue.dev and n8n work the same way.
Is Instagram DM automation through MCP allowed by Meta?
Yes, when it runs on the official Instagram API with an app Meta has reviewed — which is how ViralDM works. Messaging windows, rate limits and working hours are enforced server-side no matter which agent asks.
Can an agent publish posts and reels?
Not on Instagram yet. schedule_post and the upload tools are built, but Instagram publishing opens only when Meta approves the content-publish permission for ViralDM; until then the tools say so instead of posting.
